Do you need to be fit to go hillwalking?

I’ve heard many times the phrases; “I’m too slow”, “I’m too unfit”, “I’m too old…..

What if actually, you’re not?

If you decide to book on one of our longer walks and you have never walked in the hills before, you are going to find it hard, you might not be able to complete the full walk and you will likely hurt the next day. However, all our walks are graded and those at level 1 are suitable for all, even if you have never walked in the hills before.

The whole ethos of Team Tortoise is that we are not going to be rushing anywhere. We will walk at a gentle pace, dictated by the group and conditions on the day, but slower than average. We will stop frequently to take in our surroundings, get our breath back, take a few photos, have a snack or just chat about what we can see.

I am often asked “what is the best exercise to do to prepare for hill walking?” and the answer is hill walking! ,and if you have no hills, just walking. We all have to start somewhere so just make that start, come and join Team Tortoise and just take it from there.

I will create a comfortable, inclusive environment where we can all enjoy our walk.

If you are still worried, please get in touch and discuss your specific concerns and I will do my best to ease them.
