What Kit do I need?
Hill walking doesn’t require much specialist kit to get started but you will need some specific items to ensure you have an enjoyable day. If you don’t have all these things please let me know and I will do what I can to help.
For all walks you should have:
Footwear with good grip and preferably ankle support. Walking boots are ideal but please ask of you need advice. Be aware that your footwear may get wet and or muddy.
Waterproof coat with a hood, and trousers. No matter what the forecast is.
A spare warm layer such as a fleece or insulated jacket, in addition to what you plan to wear.
A warm hat and gloves, unless it is very very warm!
A rucksack or bag with 2 shoulder straps that is big enough to fit your waterproofs, warm coat, hat, and gloves in. As well as……
A packed lunch and spare snacks
Water or juice (at least 1 litre - 2 on hot days)
Any personal medication that you may need during the walk.
For some walks it may also be useful to have additional items such as a head torch, walking poles, a sun hat, blister plasters or binoculars but you will be advised if these are suggested.
If you are new to walking, this can seem quite a list and I am keen that no one feels put off by this. If you need any advice on if what you have is suitable or what or where to get kit please ask . I love talking about kit!
